June 27
The Streets are open! The crews opened the Pine Avenue intersection on June 27th at 4:00 pm. There is some light work to do, but that will not interfer with traffic. Have a good summer everyone.

12 - Construction Update
Construction Update - The crosswalks at Gratiot, Woodworth, State, Prospect, and Park have been completed. Those streets have been opened. Crews have started building the crosswalks at the Pine Avenue intersection. This intersection will be closed for the next 4 to 5 days. Motorist can use Court Street to get into downtown from the east. The rest of downtown is open, work is still on schedule to be completed on June 27th, weather permitting. The end is very near!

10 Construction Update
May 30th - Phase II of the construction should be complete Monday evening June 2nd. The most challenging phase of the construction will be the colored stamped concrete crosswalks at the intersections of Pine, Gratiot, Woodworth, State, Prospect and Park. MDOT added Pine and State Street to match the intersections with the rest of downtown, because of handicap access rules. The detour route will function like it did for the previous phase. Motorist coming from the east will use Adams Avenue to bring into downtown, via Ely and State to Center, when the south half of Superior is barricaded. When the north half of Superior Street is barricaded traffic from the west will be detoured along the fore mentioned route. Motorist that are coming from the west will use go south on Lincoln to Center to reach the south side or downtown or go to east side of Alma. If they want to go to the north side of downtown they would go up to Downie Street and across. The difference on this phase is traffic will only move on Superior Street in one direction. When the crews are on the North side of Superior Street east bound traffic can move through Superior Street all west bound traffic will have to use the detour. The same will be true when the crews move to the south side of Superior west bound traffic can move through Superior, all east bound traffic will be detoured. This phase of work will require curing time for the concrete, so there will be times after the pour is completed that the barricades will be up and no workers will be present. Once the concrete has cured the barricades will be moved to the opposite side of Superior and the process repeated.

1-Streetscape
STREETSCAPE CONSTRUCTION NEWS! Streetscape construction is underway. The crews will be working on the north side of Superior Street and working on every other intersection, this will allow the traffic move through downtown without detours. MDOT has added some work to the project, which will update all the handicap ramps to the current standards at all the intersections in downtown. The schedule as of today: work will start on Monday April 14th; the crew will begin by saw cutting on the north side at: Pine Avenue for the new handicap ramps, Woodworth Avenue for the new bump outs, and Prospect Street for the new bump outs. Once the saw cutting is completed the crew will go back through and pour the new ramps and curb at those intersections. The crews will repeat this process at the other three intersections on the north side: Saw cutting at Park Avenue for the new bump outs, State Street for the new handicap ramps, and Gratiot Avenue for the new bump outs. After the sawing cutting is done they will do the pouring for the ramps and curb. Once I know the pouring schedule I will let everyone know. After the crew completes the north side they will move to the south side of Superior Street and follow the same process. The first intersections they will work on are Pine, Woodworth, and Prospect; followed by the Park, State and Gratiot intersections. The crews are scheduled to be completed with this phase May 22nd the Thursday of Highland Festival weekend. The site is to be cleaned and all signed removed to get ready for the big weekend. As I receive more information I will post it on the Alma DDA website homepage. So come back and check this site from time to time to get the construction progress. If you have any questions please call me at 463-8336 or email at aripley@ci.alma.mi.us. When project is complete downtown will have a fresh new look.
