Alma Downtown Development Authority Alma, Michigan May 11, 2006 The regular meeting of the Alma Downtown Development Authority (ADDA) was called to order at 7:35 a.m. by Chairperson Shafley at the Alma Municipal Building. PRESENT: Solomon, Kline, Comer, Shafley, Dancer, Lowe, Kline, Ahern, Stacey. ABSENT: Kolar, Freed. ALSO PRESENT: A. Ripley. Motion by Comer, supported by Stacey to approve the minutes of the last regular meeting of April 13, 2006 as submitted. YES: Solomon, Kline, Comer, Shafley, Dancer, Lowe, Ahern, Stacey. NO: None. Public Input & Discussion: • None. Report from April 28, 2006 AAA meeting: • Flower Planting May 19th and 20th, on Superior and State Street. • Alma Highland Festival Community Day May 26th. Entertainment starts at 1pm on State Street and moves over to Wright Park at 6:30pm for two bands at the Tracey Band Shelter and a Hospitality tent. • Volunteers for the Alma Action Meat Pie Booth and 150th Merchandise is needed for both days Saturday and Sunday. • Tickets for the 150th Train Rides can be purchased on – line by following the 150th website link, at the Chamber Office City Hall, at Commercial and Firstbank. • The AAA will be starting a marketing committee that will make all marketing recommendations to the whole AAA each year. Alma DDA Financials • Alma DDA Financial Report was received. Board would like to see more hours for the director to come out of the other funds he works in. Director’s Report: 113 W Superior (Former Domino’s Building) • The property transfer agreement has been received for the building to be donated to the Alma DDA. • The Notice of Intent for the façade grant is due on Friday May 12. • Ron Turner has provided me a cost estimate for the updates on the brick and the roofs. Both 113 W Superior and 111 W Superior roofs will have to be done at the some time, being it is the same building. • The taxes on the building will be about $1450 a year, the former property owner will be responsible for the taxes up to the date the agreement is signed. MDOT Resurfacing Superior Street • The Director and Public Services Director met with ROWE Engineering and MDOT in Mount Pleasant to discuss the resurfacing of Superior Street and the intersection improvements and the Pedestrian way finding. • MDOT has agreed to do more of the mill and resurface in construction 2007 and to do the intersection improvements at the same time. 150th Merchandise All the 150th merchandise is in: Mason Drinking Jars - $5.00, Lapel Pin - $5.00, Coffee Mug - $8.00, T-Shirts – S-XL $10.00 XXL $13.00, Commemorate Plates - $25.00 and bottled water $1.00. Items are available here at City Hall, Alma True Value, and website, Saravilla, Zak and Jaks. Phase IV Riverwalk • The library has the go ahead and I hope to have the riverwalk built this construction season. The slopes from the library will impact the final layout of the riverwalk. Energy Park Announcement • In Wednesday May 10th Morning Sun the announcement was made for the energy park that will use the former Total property plus up to 1000 more acres. This is big news for our community and downtown. Other Business: Request for payment for the façade grant program at 211 Woodworth Avenue. This is the final grant submitted within the two year program period from June 2004. Motion by Kline supported by Comer to make a façade grant payment in the amount of $600.00 to Joe and Dawn Ahern for the improvements at 211 Woodworth Avenue.
