Public Input & Discussion: • None. Report from February 24, 2006 AAA meeting: • Chamber Showcase March 2nd, tables available for $170.00. • Tartan Day activities will be celebrated on April 8th, in downtown and at the Pine River Country club. • Alma 150th website is up and running. Two final activities that need to be planned is the opening ceremonies and the parade. • Alma Highland Festival Community day is planned and ready to go and has enough volunteers. The AAA meat pie booth that weekend stills needs volunteers. • The 2006 AAA committee sheet was sent around. • Doug Yarnell presented the Moving Veterans Wall Project being done by the Elks Club. Alma DDA Financials • Alma DDA Financial Report was received. Director’s Report: 421 N State – Cooper House • The house at 421 N State has been purchased by Dawn Drantz of Mt. Pleasant. • The new owner is looking to put in six apartments. • The city staff has agreed that the future apartments can use lot #1 for tenants on a first come first serve basis. Downtown Merchant Meeting Postcards • Meeting letters and return post cards went out to everyone in the DDA District, to set up monthly meetings with the DDA Director. • 16 of the 150+ were returned. Meetings have scheduled and another letter will be sent out again. Downtown On-Street Parking Letter Update • The on street parking letter was sent out to everyone in downtown and was received very well. • Next step is to look into making up some customer first cards that merchants could put on other merchants windshields and to look into signs that read “Customer Parking Only” below the two hour limit sign. Intersection Improvements • The intersection improvements will be done with the resurfacing of Superior Street. This will be done as an MDOT project so they will cover the 20% match. Former Domino’s Building • The former Domino’s building has been up for sale for over three years and now bricks are coming off the face of the building. • The bank that owns the building is evaluating the possibility of donating the building to the DDA, if the bank can get the full tax write off. • There are some funding options with MSHDA for the redevelopment of the building. • The DDA Board feels it is very important to keep the buildings current brick façade and not allow steel or any other type of siding. If it is owned by someone who picks it up at auction this is very possible. Alma 150th • The Alma 150th Commemorative program will be done by Harbor House Publication of Boyne City. • The 150th Committee chose to work with Harbor House because they came to the committee and pitched to the committee they would do all the work; sell the ads, set up printing and then give the committee 5,000 copies of the program to sell. • No money would have to be spent from the committee all they had to do is provide the information for the program. Other Business: • Board Member Kline would like the City to set up a full demonstration of how the roundabout would work using the dimensions at Wright and Superior Street and invite the public to see the buses, fire trucks and semi trucks navigate through the intersection. Director will talk with the city manager about setting up a demonstration for a roundabout. Adjournment 8:25am YES: Solomon, Comer, Shafley, Dancer, Lowe, Kline, Ahern, Stacey. NO: None. ______________________________________ Aeric Ripley, DDA Director/Asst. City Manager
