Alma DDA Meeting - April 13, 2006 Date: April 13, 2006
Alma Downtown Development Authority Alma, Michigan April 13, 2006 The regular meeting of the Alma Downtown Development Authority (ADDA) was called to order at 7:35 a.m. by Chairperson Shafley at the Alma Municipal Building. PRESENT: Solomon, Comer, Shafley, Dancer, Lowe, Kline, Ahern, Stacey. ABSENT: Kolar, Kline, Freed. ALSO PRESENT: A. Ripley. Motion by Solomon, supported by Stacey to approve the minutes of the last regular meeting of March 9, 2006 as submitted. YES: Solomon, Comer, Shafley, Dancer, Lowe, Ahern, Stacey. NO: None. Public Input & Discussion: • None. Report from February 24, 2006 AAA meeting: • Flower planting is scheduled for May 19th and 20th. • Tartan Day activities were celebrated on April 8th, in downtown and at the Pine River Country club. • Second Annual Community Day May 26th. Activities will be on State Street and Wright Park. • The AAA meat pie booth and 150th Merchandise booth needs volunteers on May 27th and 28th. Alma DDA Financials • Alma DDA Financial Report was received. Director’s Report: MDOT Resurfacing Superior Street • MDOT resurfacing Superior Street from Prospect to Wright Avenue in 2007. • The city will be making application to MDOT for Enhancement Grant dollars for the intersections of Prospect, Park, Gratiot and Woodworth. Also a pedestrian way-finding canopy in the alley of Lot #4. 150th Merchandise • All the 150th merchandise is in: Mason Drinking Jars - $5.00, Lapel Pin - $5.00, Coffee Mug - $8.00, T-Shirts – S-XL $10.00 XXL $13.00, Commemorate Plates - $25.00 and bottled water $1.00. Items are available here at City Hall, Alma True Value, and website, Saravilla, Zak and Jaks. Downtown Merchant Meetings • The first meetings with the merchants have been very positive. Having scheduled times gives them time to prepare questions and to learn more about what is going on in downtown and the City. Former Domino’s Building • Waiting to hear about the deed for the building. Any work that is done on this building will have to be done in conjunction with the building next door. • There is a grant available for façade improvement with the CDBG funds. The job creation is attached to the money at $20,000 pre job created. Applications for the program are due May 15, 2006. Motion: The director should proceed with the donation of the property at 113 W Superior from Capital National Bank to the Alma Downtown Development Authority. YES: Solomon, Comer, Shafley, Dancer, Lowe, Ahern, Stacey. NO: None Other Business: • Board Member Shafley ask about the possible parking on the northwest corner of Center and State Streets. The corner used to be home to a Mail drop, but there should be enough room for three parking spaces.
